The risks around smoking cigarettes have been in the public awareness for many years now so it may not be surprising to discover that there are 114,000 deaths each year from smoking related illnesses such as lung cancer, heart disease and emphysema.
Due to the fact that habits are formed unconsciously they are difficult to remove by willpower alone. As the above therapies work on the unconscious part of the mind they are more likely to be succesful this is probably why hypnotherapy has become one of the most well known of all techniques for stopping smoking.

Overcoming Phobias
A phobia (from the greek phobos meaning "fear") is an uncontrollable, intense, irrational, persistent fear of a specific object, situation or activity. Phobias can sometimes develop in childhood and if this is the case then there may not always be a conscious memory of how it started. Alternatively something may happen in later life which triggers a phobia and a vivid memory of this can usually be recalled.
Very often a person will cope with the phobia by avoiding the fearful stimulus and can sometimes live a fully functioning life whilst stiil holding on to it. However, there are times when it can impinge on a persons lifestyle and become restrictive e.g. not being able to go abroad on holiday due to a flight phobia or having to use the stairs due to a fear of using a lift.
The traditional treatment for a phobia is "systematic desenstisation" which means gradually exposing a person to the fearful object or situation in a safe and controlled way. This may take many sessions of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (C.B.T.) before the phobia is overcome.
Hypnotherapy, N.L.P., Time Line TherapyTM and E.F.T. all use a similar way to treat phobias and because they deal directly with the unconscious part of the mind they can help to overcome the fear much faster.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (I.B.S.)

It is estimated that 10% - 15% of the population suffer with I.B.S. and the disturbance can range from mildly irratating to severely dibillitating. The commonest symptoms of I.B.S. include abdominal pain, Diarrhoea, Constipation, a sense of urgency and bloated stomach.
Although there are no known causes of I.B.S. a link has been formed between the condition and psychological problems such as stress and anxiety. It is for this reason that Wythenshawe hospital in Manchester choose to treat the problem with Hypnotherapy and have found it to be highly effective showing a 71% success rate with I.B.S. patients who had treatment. Combining Hypnotherapy, N.L.P., E.F.T. and Time Line Therapy the symptoms of I.B.S. can be considerably reduced or even eradicated within three to four sessions.
